BRAsIL 2014

EDUCATION &  FOOTBALL THE RIGHT WAY…

In 2013 former Lionsraw UK Director, Kevin Clark, moved with his family to Curitiba, and set out to establish valuable relationships with local football leaders throughout the city who use football for social change. The initial plan for the 2014 Fifa World Cup was to deliver football camps across the city for 2 weeks, but in true Lionsraw fashion, it got a little deeper than that.

WHAT WE DID

In June 2014 we brought almost 300 volunteers from 10 different countries across the world to Curitiba, one of the 12 host cities for this year’s World Cup. Our main project was constructing an education complex for Futebol de Rua, an after-school program that serves children from poor areas just outside the city center. The facility provides academic tutoring, soccer instruction, art and music classes to more than 500 at-risk youth on a daily basis.

PARTNERS INVOLVED

Lionsraw were proud to partner with Futebol De Rua on this project and provide them with a safe place to play the beautiful game and teach in the classroom. We couldn’t have done it without our very kind sponsors and partners EMC.

LASTING LEGACY

It’s been four years since the first bricks were laid on our site in Cajaru and we’re very proud that four years later, a beautiful building is complete and is home to not only the Futebol De Rua team, but also the fantastic programs they operate.

Every day hundreds of local children within the favela are diverted from a life of crime as local volunteers make use of the fantastic facility we were able to develop for them.
